Hi everyone, currently where we reside there are quite a few services for my adult child who has developmental delays and also physical disabilities. I am curious about any services that allow for a family member to be paid for caretaking. Are there protection supervision hours? What is the rate and what are the maximum hours allowed? I have called the agencies in Oregon and never get very far with finding anything out. In California the services are called In Home Supportive Services and a parent gets paid to care for their disabled child. So looking for any information about any similar services in Oregon.

We are looking at relocating to the Ashland area but are also thinking about Portland if that helps.

Thank you so very much!

I don't think the services you are looking for are provided in Oregon, but contact the Office of Developmental
Disability Services to be sure. You might be better off just looking to relocate to some place in Northern California, instead. Maybe Redding.

Disability Services (ODDS)

I know they have or used to have paid caretaking services for children caring for aging parents to keep them out of nursing homes, but I don't know about the opposite direction.

You aren't going to get the services you have come to expect in California.

True, but the services you do get in Oregon are superior to what you can expect in California.

Like when millions of Californians apply for unemployment, and then get their benefits given them on a totally unsecured debit card, which is then picked over by hackers within days. Then the scam bank that issued the card, freezes the card an demands that the card holder pay back the fraud.

Every time I start to wander if I would have been better off staying in California so I could get slightly more benefits, I think of situations like that and say, hell no.
