I don't think you realize how much water it takes to grow pot. With all of the illegal pot farms growing down there, they are draining badly needed water for farmers who have legal water rights. This isn't about legal pot farms that are regulated by the state. This is about the seriously large problem happening down there because of illegal pot farms.

I'm fine with legal pot in Oregon, but being okay with it doesn't mean it is acceptable to be overrun by illegal pot farms for drug cartels. There is a middle ground in there somewhere.

What the "growers" mentioned in the article are doing is definitely not "legal in this state."
I don't think any of it should be illegal. I have better things to do with my life then worry about what somebody is growing in their backyard.

You must have better things to do than read the article we're discussing as well; otherwise, you'd know what we're talking about.

Can't help but wonder if this kind of thing would have gone on in way Northern California (Mendocino, Humboldt) if the cartels were just as active. I'm talking the 70's when a co-worker of mine in San Francisco quit to start a hidden farm there.
The Illinois Valley has been famous for its marijuana growing since the 1960s. If you don't like it, just don't live there. Like I said Idaho is just 400 miles east. It's a nice fascist police state, with enough law enforcement to keep fighting the losing war on drugs forever. That's not my type of place, so that's why I don't live there. The majority of Oregonians have voted that that's not the type of place they want either. Just find a place that makes you happy.

If you want to discuss this, you should read the article. It isn't about what you clearly think it's about.

I have read the article. I guess you all missed this part.

This part of south-western Oregon – which encompasses Josephine, Jackson and Douglas counties and was settled by goldminers in the 1850s – has always kept a touch of the wild west anti-authority streak, contributing to its status as a stronghold of illegal cannabis farms since the 1960s.
This is not something new. If you are waiting for it to end, you will be sadly disappointed.

CloudyDayz you have refused to address the issues raised in the article because you don't care. Just make that money and nature and people be damned!

And it's laughable that you would accuse me of not reading it when you obviously refuse to.

You are refusing to address the issue I raised that it's been going on forever.

As to your environmental concerns the timber industry in Oregon, which is about 500 times bigger than the legal and illegal marijuana industry combined, is continuing to clear cut Oregon forest lands, even while global warming is reaching unprecedented levels and threatening to burn down the rest of the forests.

Yet, you are all more concerned about a handful of illegal marijuana farms near Cave Junction. Talk about trying to find the silliest most insignificant issues to worry about. Environmental damage from marijuana growers is a drop in the bucket compared to other industries.

In your opinion, which minimizes the larger issue.
