Alright. I've read quite a few of the entries on the forums about the Roseburg area of Oregon and the information has been helpful. However, my situation isn't as cozy as some of the others and I really need help deciding about relocating. I currently live in Kansas City and had a job as a teacher where I made 20K/year. In order to save money, I helped my grandparents by living with them so that they could have an errand girl and help around the house, etc. Anway, the place I am looking at only offers about 18K per year for a salary. Is that a reasonable salary for that area of Oregon? Does anyone have any suggestions for where to look for housing?

Any and all information will be helpful. I'm originally from the East coast and it's been a long time since I moved!

Yeah...as long as your class load doesn't exceed .4 FTE and they arrange your schedule so you can get an additional job! Also getting an Oregon certificate may not be easy. They have some idiosyncratic requirements that may send you back to college.

Even for Roseburg and it's slightly below state average COL, that's an awfully low salary! You won't be able to live comfortably on that income anywhere in OR, I can assure you of that much. You would probably be able to make ends meet with a roommate or a second job, but not sock anything away for savings, or car repairs, or fun money, etc.

I have to ask, is this a teaching position, or a teacher's aid? Teachers were paid more than that 20 years ago in my little rural town!

I don't know where you came up with the figure of 18K for a teacher, this may be so for a teachers aid but in Oregon the average salary of a certified teacher is about 49K. Oregon ranks 14th in the nation when it comes to teacher salaries.
