This Summer/June i will come for the first time in the USA( i am Polisch but i live in Germany since 15 years), first i plan to stay for a couple of days in NYC and after that i wish to visit Oregon State.
I am lookin for the best and chippiest possibbility to do that, from NYC to Portland, what is the best? Amtrak or better is to take a plane? Which Airplane?
I would like to come to Portland and a rent a car, where i can do that?-directly on the Airport or better in the town? Which cars are ok for European? No automatic please, no big cars...
Have someone any idea?, i think to travel around in Oregon and to see a country side of the Oregon, small cities Eugene? for example- which part is nice for- i love Coast, Forests, Mountains? On the Internet everything about Oregon looks just great ( just sunny Weather!Pictures
)and i have just about five days for all..
Which Motels or Hotels or better a Tent are Ok? I am not a rich person- i do my best all the time

It's probably best to fly to Portland. The easy way to rent a car is at the airport. I mean why make it complicated?

many campgrounds also have yurts and/or cabins they rent for fairly cheap, but you may want to look into making reservations. Inf fact, for some campgrounds, you might want to check on those even for a tent site!

Since you're not familiar with the USA, I'd suggest going to a travel agent and let them research best prices, availablity, etc. Let them know what you want to do and they should be able to set everything up for you (flights, hotels, rental cars, etc). Oregon has wonderful state parks all along the coast (Hwy. 101) and beautiful national parks and scenic views throughout the Cascades and basically all over the state.
