There was another thread I thought got kind of negative about our beautiful coastline, so I started this to remind people how blessed we really are. Spacelord, I wish you were my neighbor here on the Oregon coast!

I agree with spacelord75. I grew up spending summers on the shore on the east coast. The coast of Oregon is difficult to describe in terms of its beauty. It is my dream location for retirement.

Oregonbeachlover and tiffela74 have been so nice and responsive to me: I wish I was a neighbor of theirs on the Oregon coast!

I don't think the other thread was negative about the coastline. It was about the condition of some of the buildings in some of the cities.

Only an insane person would say that the coast itself isn't stunning.

Each Oregon coastal town has it's own culture, and I think that the OP of the other thread just had different expectations. The culture of Seaside is very different than Cannon Beach, Manzanita, or Bandon for that matter. I think all of the towns I have spent time in have their pros and cons.

Once we transplants (okay I've been one for 17 years now so am I still a transplant?) become more acclimated things shift and you realize that the cute storefronts aren't the draw, the coastline is.

On the other thread, words like trashy, tacky, yuck, etc. were being used...one poster said Lincoln City and Newport were the worst too. I live in Lincoln City, so I know that is not true. Of course, our little beachy towns, with their sand-blown buildings, are not Carmel, but that is what makes them all special, albeit different. Silverfall, I agree with you that there are pros and cons about any place on earth, but I just wanted to get away from the "glass is half empty" syndrome, put things into perspective regarding the coastline, and point out that we are so, so, so blessed!

I was born and raised in Washington and lived in Eastern Oregon for 10 years. Of all the beaches I've been to, the Oregon coast is the best IMHO. In addition to the scenery, I believe all the towns that line the coast add to the atmosphere of the area and it wouldn't be the same without them.

Its a gawkers beach,a dreamers beach,a walkers, tide pool 'splorin' beach, an 'a fool hath said there is no God' experience , but much different from what many think of as a day at the beach. (and arent there already plenty of those in the world?)
If you're lucky, you'll get a really hot day and it will be both.

I enjoy living on the coast in Oregon. I thought this was a good place to mention that
National Geographic Adventure Magazine has picked Coos Bay as one of 50 next great adventure towns. There's a couple of other picks in Oregon too but this is the only one on the coast of Oregon. You can read about it here 50 Best Places to Live - National Geographic Adventure Magazine

What a fun article Waterlily. Thanks! I did not know that Coos Bay was known for surfing. Oh gosh, does this mean that people will start to "discover" it now?

Also, I forgot to post that if anyone is interested in reading the Where to Retire magazine article on Lincoln City (it is 6 pages), PM me and I'll email it to you.
