Just to repeat, look at the lower Columbia Basin area...Hermiston, Pendleton, etc.

When we lived there it got to where I'd almost have killed for a cloudy day. Blinding sun and no clouds gets monotonous.

It became a joke in our family to look out the window in the morning to heave a big sigh and say in a mournful voice, "Looks like another beautiful day."

Ha. Beautiful. I tried to describe this feeling to another poster in the Bend forum. Endless cloudless days gets, to use your word, monotonous.

I love weather variations. It's more true to life.....things change.

Some, though, really enjoy monotonous weather which baffles me. It tends to tames the population, imho.

Probably Medford for a combination of both. Eastern Oregon gets pretty cold in the winter, though the summer gets hotter than in the west.

Actually, no - the Rogue Valley (Medford, Ashland, etc) get hotter in the summer than the corridor from Redmond down to Klamath Falls. The high altitude sun in the high desert is pretty potent, though, so it can feel pretty hot, even in the low 90s.

It is, however, MUCH colder in winter.

The best warm/sunny weather in Oregon is smack in the middle of July and August.

How about driving north of Bend? Is there a town there that's doesn't get as cold as Bend, that has more reasonable house costs, yet still not as much rain as the Willamette Valley? Yet is not too small like 20,000 or more?

Take a look at the Pendleton area - although, really, it's only slightly warmer than Bend in the winter and it's much hotter (and browner) in the summer.

No, if you want an area, that doesn't get as cold as Bend, you have to go west, and then you will get more precipitation.
