We currently live in SW WA and almost moved cross county for better weather (we love heat). But we changed our mind because all my extended family is here, and I do love the Northwest, except that I'm a total wimp about the cold.

I know Southern Oregon has significantly better weather (i.e. a "real" summer) so we are looking at that option. Can anyone give me an idea of what it's like down there as far as lifestyle? We have two young kids, we're conservative-leaning but not fanatical, fine in the suburbs but we do like our privacy. We're not "city people" but do like a some culture.

Does anyone have kids in public schools and if so, what's your opinion? I'm thinking we'd probably be looking at Medford. I've never spent time there but have been to Grants Pass many times and that's a little to small for us.

Perhaps a suburb of Medford would work for you. There's at least 2 that are close to the city of Medford. It does tend to be conservative down there. It seems like there's plenty to do, and many places to shop.I have been down there just last spring as a tourist.
I don't know about the schools.
