In the vicinity of North Plains and Helvetia there are several stables. If you use Google maps and center it on Hillsboro then search "Stables" you will be able to see them on the map with little balloons. The equestrian community has taken a hit in the economy, I would call each of them to verify their services. You may want to ask each the name of the veterinarian and farrier that frequents their facility. With a few of those names in hand give them a call to ask where they would board their horse.

Transporting a horse from northern Europe to the Pacific NW is stressful for the horse and owner. Best of luck.

I can't think of any neighborhood that can't meet your other needs but as a 'retired' rider myself I would try to locate between the stable and place of employment.

Thank you for your help! Actually the horse already is in the US, so it will be just us and our dog relocating from Finland, but obviously it's still a big move. Exciting though!

Oh and in another thread I read about some gang activity in certain areas of Hillsboro. Could you perhaps tell me more about in which parts would be best in order to avoid that?

My husband will be working but I will not, so I will have plenty of time to look around though

I am excited about moving to Hillsboro and obviously would love to find friends soon, so that is also an important task I have ahead. But I guess that's something I can't find info about on a discussion forum.

I haven't heard anything about gang activity in Hillsboro. Every town has a couple idiots, not all belong to gangs. In the past Hillsboro was a farming community with a lot of settled out farm workers. There is a vestige of that still but now it is our Silicon Forest dominated by Intel.

Don't even worry about it. Yes, there is gang activity in Hillsboro, and pretty much any population center on the West Coast. Most of it is kids who think being in a gang is cool and maybe do a bit of tagging to "mark their territory."

There will be an occasional issue with gang on gang violence, but you'll most likely never even see anything to make you think twice about it.

What Hammellr said. I've never felt unsafe in any part of Hillsboro, although some areas are certainly better than others. Just use common sense.

Most of what you'll see as far as gang activity is tagging/vandalism, gang-on-gang crime, and property crimes (cars broken into). Some of that is more related to drug activity than strictly "gang" activity.

As I've posted before, Hillsboro police are proactive about handling crime, and as a result the city's crime rates have dropped steadily over the past 10 years.

I agree with looking at North Plains & Helvetia. You can also look at the area just south of HWY 26 and north of Hillsboro, Cornelius, and Forest Grove. It's all farmland with stables, nurseries, and orchards.
