Hello All :
Going thru these posts I find virtually nothing mentioned about Canby ( although I find numerous mentions of Wilsonville which is 6 miles away ) .
As I'm seriously considering moving there very soon, I'd sure appreciate any input so as to avoid my "Going from the FryingPan (Apache Jct, AZ) into the Fire "

Thanx Much ,
Raydeo

Default Sorry...

Can't help with information about Canby. All I know is that it is relatively close to Portland (which is nice).

But I'm curious: why are you considering moving there? Have you ever visited it? It amazes me that people actually pick up & move to places they've never visited (although I did that myself, when I was 21 years old: moved from NYC to SF but, being a 'kid,' I really wasn't risking all that much).

You will definitely be leaving the 'frying pan'... Arizona! If anything, you'll be jumping into a 'bath tub' (i.e., lots of rain).

Ok... bad metaphor. But at least I tried.

More people would know about Wilsonville as it's right by the freeway. I've stoped in there a couple of times.
Canby is not by the freeway and it's kind of an out of the way suburb of Portland. However that would make it a bit more peaceful. I don't remember ever stoping there either.

Hwy 99 runs through Canby. It's a small comunity with a very high cost of living. If you really want info, email me and I'll get you a welcome packet.

What are you looking for in a community? Do you just need to be near Portland?

Yes, I visited only briefly and liked what I saw on the "surface" . Just wondering if there were any underlying caveats such as excessively high property taxes, etc.
I've gotta get outta this stinkin' desert for health reasons. BTW:
I once saw a lizard jump out of a frying pan into the fire, just to find the Shade of the pan...
Thanx,
Raydeo

Canby's pretty nice, on the conservative side, (more retired farm folks, less 'web-poster's). but money has moved there when it got pushed out of Lake O and areas in SO PDX due to the 'parade of McMansions" and $$ that followed.

The commute from Canby is limited to only a few roads. (would be great to have a job in town). It's not 'yuppie' like wilsonville, nor 'migrant', like Woodburn, nor 'High Scale wealthly' like Charbonneau. Aurora is close, it's nice too.

Default Canby update

FWIW :

I did find a speech on the City of Canby website wherin the Mayor mentions a Gang and Meth problem in the city. Is this something that one finds all over these days ?

Just curious,
Raydeo

I had a few friends who lived in Canby and loved it. It's not rural, but has a country feel, laid back. I would consider it a great place to move, either alone or with a family. It's still a little ways from Portland, but if you don't need to be near the city it would be a great place to live.
