Hello, my girlfriend and I will be visiting Oregon in late June (from Austin, TX). We will be arriving late on Wednesday night and leaving late the following Sunday. We will land in Portland. We would like to do some mainly outdoor activities..hiking and fishing and such. We were thinking of stopping by Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, the Rogue River and then making our way back up the coast to Portland.

Any advise on this being too many activities? Or other places we should visit instead? What places to stop along the coast, we will have a full day. We are not hard core hikers but would like to do some scenic activities.

4 days? Am I understanding that right or do you mean 11 days?

It is actually just 4 days. We are open to suggestions. We have been considering spending more days along the coast and maybe just one day inland, hiking or checking out waterfalls.

Well you can't go down to the Rogue River and Crater Lake in that time. I would just stick to the Portland area and the northern coast.

Oregon Gardens in Silverton is a good walk and so full of plants that we grow here in the northwest plus the drive from Portland to Silverton is in full bloom now..There is something close to 4 miles of paths in the garden plus up to the hotel for the view..
Enjoy your short stay

The hike to Paradise is nice on Mt. Hood. You can also hike around Multnomah Falls. On the coast if you go to Cannon Beach, Ecola State Park has gorgeous views. I like Manzanita as well and that whole drive along 101 is stunning. There is a nice hike in Manzanita to a scenic point with great views as well. I'll have to try and remember the name of that trail.

If you visit the Oregon Garden, you will be fairly close to Silver Falls State Park which has great easy hiking around the waterfalls. Enjoy your trip.

The Columbia Gorge area is beautiful and affords many hiking trails. Also you could visit Bonneville Power (Dam) off I-84. If you have kids, the diesel train ride around Mt. Hood is fun, leaves from Hood River, OR.

Yeah, I'd stay north. A river trip takes a BIG chunk out of a 4 day trip. If that is a necessity, See if you can get a run on the Klickitat or White Salmon rivers (WA) to fit into a Gorge hiking day.

Crater Lake is more accessible in the late summer and fall. (Lots of snow remains in June)
