Hello All,

I will be relocating to the Brookings area in the very near future. I am thinking about opening a metaphysical supply store. I am torn between the spirtual and the physical. Would an adult (ahem) bookstore be more appropriate?

I would like to bring enlightment to the area one way or the other.

Please let me know

"I would like to bring enlightment to the area one way or the other."

SHEESH. What an INSULTING comment.

Enlightment? To Brookings? LOL

We have more than enough enlightment here. A walk on an empty beach is all the enlightment needed.

AND we certainly don't need an adult bookstore. We have REAL bookstores. Quite a few of them for such a small town. Brookings is a LITERATE town.

It is my considered opinion that human beings who do not find spiritual and physical enlightment in the beauty that surrounds Brookings should stay where they are.

This application by South Coast Lumber Co. helped me understand the extent of problem:

With air quality such a severe problem in a lot if not most areas today, it is a real pity that coastal towns with such potential as Brookings do not safeguard their environment better.

I am trying to cancel my rental now and hope to find a better suited place somewhere further up the coast.

I see absolutely NO PROBLEM with the South Coast Lumber Co. Their "pollution" doesn't bother me, nor does their "noise".

Seeing that smoke billow into the air and hearing that "noise", I am reminded of the fact that people are gainfully employed there and that that employment enables them to feed, clothe and provide shelter for their families. In a county with many people living below the poverty line, to me that's a blessing.

Hi:
I am seeking a place to relocate with my 2 big dogs. Rain, fog, cold... does not bother me. I am intrigued about Oregon but am having a hard time trying to match towns/cities with actual location.
My main concerns are affordable housing(220k to 300k) and a decent paying job(35k and up for someone with a graduate degree). I don't really care about being in a big City and prefer the more "rural" areas. What part of Oregon(town) should I look to? Also, any dog friendly areas?

Thanks!

I like Freedom's response to your post! I think he's got a point: have you been to this town?

I'm not sure either of your store ideas would fly in this town. We have a very strong Christian community who are very much against "ahem" stores, although probably a lot of them would sneak in and flip through the books if they thought they could get away with it. And I can just see all the letters to the editors of the Pilot complaining about the 'dirty book store' and the downfall of civilization as we know it. A lot of bible quoting and thumping. We get a lot of that in the local paper.

I love bookstores, and I would love to see a metaphysical one here. That's one of the things I miss about living in a big city, the variety of books stores. It's true we have a number of small book stores in this area, and they seem to get by, for the most part. But it's got to be a tough way of making a living.

Maybe you could combine the two types of store into one? That would cover all the bases! So to speak.

You can definitely find a fairly decent home in this town and area for $300K or under. Especially in this current real estate market. The job's another story. They are hard to come by and not very specialized.

Check the Pilot's want ads for listings.

It is definitely a dog friendly area. Everyone has a dog or two.

I would say; Do whatever your HEART says is the right thing to do, doing the right thing will lead you to success in all endeavors.
I know there is a demand here. I only know 3 people personally who would purchase goods, but I believe you would be VERY successful here. Call it a trend or whatever you like. Many people are discovering their spirituality here, and all over the world......No I'm not a fanatic of ANY kind! I'm simply spiritual, and I am pursuing many different practices and religions to come to my own conclusions.
In doing so I experiment with MANY different tools, books, and ANYTHING METAPHYSICAL!!!.
I see you are doing what you can to get a more consice overview of the demand for your services based on the population saturation, and the present state of the economy.
Trust your Instincts and follow your heart!. There is a demand here for your service's and goods, I assure you. Advertising is easy here as there is only one newspaper and a very few radio stations lol!!!.
I just bought a loan....(house lol!!!) from the bank. I have limited funds, but I do have a fair amount of spare time and would be willing to help out as needed.
If you require any assistance you can reach me at; clairvoiant1967@yahoo.com
Good luck with your successful venture, and I wish you and yours, Love, Happiness, and Prosperity.
Sincerely: Brian Pyatt..............................As far as the adult book store....would you want your children looking at the things in those books???......I hope NOT!!!.
