My friend and i are looking to rent a cabin somewhere in Oregon this summer, but where? We want to be secluded; close to mnt. biking trails, and kayaking spots. The problem is that we're finding rates for cabins to be expensive. Can anyone suggest what location we should start looking in and how we should go about our search for that great little cabin escape?

Look at a map and pick out some towns away from it all. Maybe John Day,La Pine,or Oakridge. Then use the newspaper links on page for that town on city-data. You can also google the town and see what you get.

WAAYYYY over in eastern oregon is an area called Wallowa Lake, it's a couple hours drive from LaGrande. It is beautiful in the summer, as the name emplies there is a lake for boating, you can go horseback riding, hiking and they have an aerial tram that takes you to the top of the mountain, the view is gorgeous. Last time I was there about 15 years ago cost to ride the tram was $20/person. Once you get to the top you can walk the trails, enjoy the view, there is a restaurant up there where you can eat. Also, there used to be semi-tame deer roaming around the cabins in Wallowa lake, they would get really close to the people and some would let you take a picture with them.
