Hi all. Just wanted to know if any of you know something about Toledo. We are retired and are looking for some quiet area with a house and a little land for the dogs. Of course we need vet hospitals, doctors for us not to far out.

What attracted you to Toledo? If I were going to retire in that area, I would be looking somewhere along the lower Siletz.

Toledo is a small town about ten miles east of Newport. It is warmer there than in Newport in the summer. Gets lots of rain in the winter because it's in the Coast Range. Major employer is Georgia Pacific with several hundred employees. GP is now privately owned and they had some layoffs due to some reorganization. Downtown is gradually becoming quaint with antique shops.

Toledo is a small town and most of the people that live here do eather work at gp or are related to someone who works at gp. (and by the way there were no layoffs at gp. At least on the union side. I have worked there for 10 years.) Toledo is a great place to live, but if you want good medical care this is not the place for you. Newport hospital does not have the best reputation. Corvallis is much better in the medical point of veiw. But on the other hand, toledo is only 40-45 minutes west of corvallis. I have lived in Toledo for 30 years and I still wont leave.
