I'm grew up in Illinois and we are NOT humid like that. Summers are spectacular out here and we get the occasional muggy day in the rainy season, but it doesn't even come close to Midwest humidity.

#1 will be even cooler (and more humid), but includes areas that can be downright chilly in summer (mid-50's for a daily high).

Steve, this is great. I truly commend you for your efforts. Your map with comments is magnificent and a treasure.

I'm now going forward: taking into account your #2 pick (Willamette Valley), as the most temperate summer weather, coupled with your observation that "Most of the state's population lives here. All Oregon's major cities are in the Willamette Valley." leads to me this: which of the counties encompassing #2 has the least density of population, allowing one to enjoy the climate and also find relative seclusion?

Polk and Linn counties probably have the least population.

Thank you very much.
Can you please also name a few quaint towns in those counties that might be a good start to begin my real estate search?

How small do you want to go? And what do you mean by remote? I mean we have some remote towns out here...

I guess coming from Miami Beach, I'm kinne nervous of the hustle and bustle life style and that's what I'm trying to avoid. Being that my search is for a summertime residents only, I think an acre or so of land with a cute cabin-like feel on the outskirts of a quite town would be nice. I have no use for clubs, bars, or the like. However, being a gourmet chef and yoga teacher, a nice farmers market nearby would make me a happy man. My entire days are spent between practicing yoga, playing in the kitchen, long walks, and reading. Age 40, if that means anything. I'm also not in need of a job at the destination.

I think you would be happy in what is known as the "Oregon Alps"... google it, or here is a quick link for you: 19 - Scenic Oregon pictures with Wallowa Mountains photographs (http://www.strengthinperspective.com/mpfindor/mpgal19/mpgal19.html - broken link)

The only place you'll find anything remotely close to a "hustle and bustle" sort of vibe in Oregon would be in Portland. Maaaayyybe Salem. Maybe.

People have left Oregon because they felt Oregonians were too relaxed. Seriously.

Indeed. This whole thread is like a 50 car pileup in slow motion. It's horrible and drawn out but you can't look away. .
