I am currently an appraiser in Orange County, California and am looking to leave the state (home prices are just to high). We have friends that live in Oregon and just love it. I don't really want to live in a big city but need to live close enough to a bigger city to work there. All of our kids have grown so school system is not critical. What is critical is home prices (something less than $350,000). I am also tired of living in an area where the only green is an occasional tree planted along the street.

If anyone has a suggestion as to a good city to look at I would appraciate it.

Any city that will provide you employment and your chances are slim to none. If your current paycheck provides "green" then that's more green then you'll see here!!

Well, the most home sales are Portland, Eugene and Salem. Bend is in the tank right now for real estate. So you'd want to be close to one of them.

If you plan to stay an appraiser, unless you have some contacts work will be tough. I'm sure you know that already though.

So what size city are you looking for and what do you want in your city. We have many, many small cities 9,000-15,000 people.

You may have eliminated a large portion of the state located to the east of the Cascades with this requirement.

Not much green in the areas encompassed by the high desert of Eastern Oregon.............plenty of beauty, but in shades of brown and grey.

Let's not tell him about the Blue Mountians....

Actually once you travel east of Pendelton Oregon is green again.

Hi Mike: Can you give some more specifics as to what you like in an area? Portland is going to be your best bet job-wise, and there are plenty of homes on the market under $350k, so you'll need to be more specific so we can recommend sections that will fit what you are looking for...
