My two favorite places to stay on the coast are Gold Beach and Yachats! I tend to seek out the smaller, less busy areas, myself. It has been a few years, but at Gold Beach we usually stay at The Ireland's or the place right next to it, and when we went to Yachats we stayed at The Fireside (I think). We have only been to Yachats once, but we loved it! The hotel is right on a great section of beach!

Some people that want more of a busy, lots of shops kind of place may want to go to Bandon or Newport.

I was thinking about Yachats, Gold Beach is probably closer to GP than I would like. Not sure if we're hitting the coast from Bend at Newport or Florence. Would like to stay somewhere between Newport and Coos Bay. Traveling on to GP thru Crescent city the following day.

I've always been partial to the Best Western Inn at Face Rock just outside of Bandon.

It's a nice quiet place with decent amenities and is located right across a quiet street from a gorgeous beach. Bandon has enough tourist stuff to fill a morning or afternoon's browsing quota.
