Getting lonely for friends in Florida. Everyone is either married and busy with their families, or 20-something, or a senior citizen. Is Oregon any different?
How's Ashland?

Default 30-something in Oregon

Oregon is growing in popularity. Especially with people like me who are fed up with the hustle and bustle, crowds, traffic and crime from SoCal. That being said, more professional 30-somethings are migrating here. I live in Bend, one of the fastest-growing towns in the US. It'll take a while to meet the right people, but there are plenty of singles here. You just need to know where to look and be patient.

If I were to pick a place for 30's singles I'd say it would be Portland.

I would agree. If you are young and hip then you need to be in Portland.

That's actually good to know about Portland because I've been thinking about moving there, myself. More job opportunities, more dating options than Bend.

I live near Bend and there are LOTS of young attractive healthy types to choose from. It's a very outdoorsy active lifestyle city. Lots to do for a smallish town.

Arrow Portland vs. Bend

To up your chances, I'd move someplace that has the most possibilites, and that would be Portland. Higher population, means more people, which mean better chance of the single 30 something crowd you're looking for. Plus the jobs are more prevalent in Portland, and it's not as expensive to live in Portland as it is to live in Bend, which is probably one of the most expensive places to live in Oregon aside from right on the beach.

Default Bend's cost of living

I don't know about Bend being more expensive to live in than Portland. I am currently living in Portland and am in the midst of moving BACK to Bend because it is slightly more affordable. At least in the suburb of Portland in which I live (and surrounding suburbs), the cost of both real estate AND rentals cost a heck of a lot more. So does the cost of health care, power, etc. About the only thing that cost more in Bend was the cost of fuel. And it's not like I moved away from Bend long ago. Rather, it was less than 10 months ago.

Also, the houses list on the MLS in Bend right now exceeds 1,800. That's more than triple the amount from three years ago.

Anyway, yes, the cost of living has significantly increased in Bend ... but it has also done that every where. Even the cost of living in Corvallis is no less expensive than Bend, and it's not really even growing.

For a big city person moving into a small town in Oregon, it'll be a little harder to meet people than in Portland.
