We had our hearts set on Caby/Aurora. And yet, sigh, nada. We have a really large family (eight young children) AND a dog (german shepherd) so it seriously limits the rentals out there. We were hoping for something a bit AWAY from town, out in the country because I'm not an "indoor" dog kind of a person even though ours is very laid back.

DH will be in Oregon all weekend. I'm supposed to set up houses to look at to rent. So far I've successfully set up one. In town. At the top of our price range. Sigh.

Ideally? Fenced yard at least IF not in the country.

I found some lovely homes in Hillsboro and one in Aloha? Thoughts on a family friendly environment? He'll be commuting to Wilsonville.

Really, really, really wanted Canby/Aurora.

If you want Canby/Aurora, go for it. Maybe you actually have to go and pound the ground but I can't believe there is zero vacancies. Hillsboro to Wilsonville is too much commute to subject your DH to unless you must and I don't see that it is a must. Besides, Hillsboro/Aloha are more suburban than rural. You want... need rural IMO. Good luck.

I agree that Hillsboro to Wilsonville would be a nasty commute. It doesn't look far on the map because it really isn't, but the traffic would be bad. If he is in Wilsonville I would look Sherwood/Tualatin area.

Aurora is only 900 people or so, so I can see you not finding a rental. Canby isn't big either. Plus with that many kids AND a dog you might have a tough time. Many landlords have restrictions on the # of people per bedroom (like 2).

Drat. That wasn't what I wanted to hear. I liked the house & the gal I got to talk to yesterday about a house in Hillsboro. When you say "nasty" what does that mean exactly? A 20 minute commute? A 40 minute commute?

Sigh. Trust me, it really is zero availability. Spoke to the sweetest woman at the paper yesterday who went through all the ads for me. To find a house with at LEAST 4 bedrooms, who will accept eight children, and a 100 lb. german shepherd..... Canby was the one we REALLY wanted. He'll go visit there Friday but right now it's looking like a longshot.

I have one day to line up appts. for him to go see and honestly? I feel a little like .

The company "needs" him in CA the rest of the month. We were supposed to get a weekend of house hunting in. Not going to happen. So this is the one opportunity. And I can't find houses for him to look at.

Would anyone be willing to suggest areas for me to look in? You're right, on the map it all looks close. I can see how Sherwood would be better. Will Newberg be a better commute?

Silverfall, thank you for the suggestion. Greatly appreciated. Where there is a will there is a way.

I could see the commute taking 40 minutes or more depending on traffic on 26 and 217. I-5 wouldn't be bad because he would be going the opposite direction. Hillsboro is where Intel is located and traffic just stinks out there.

Honestly you might not have a choice. Finding a rental will be really difficult. You would just need to know going in that the commute might be kind of long.

You're right, there're out there. Personally, I think that commute from Hillsboro would be dreadful.

Try checking this site. It's The Oregonian on-line newspaper. There're at least three large homes in the country within your price range and your husband's commute would be half of what if would be other wise. You'd have to check on the dog part though.

Apartments & Condos for Rent Listings - OregonLive.com

Check the ones in Molalla and Beavercreek. They are in the country and the commute via a few back roads to Wilsonville is far better. Shopping in Oregon City is not far away.

Google Chuck Hanson Real Estate.

I'm not sure if they manage down that way, but maybe. Worth a call. They are in Beaverton and have been at this a long time. Really know what they are doing and may have a lead for you. Haven't called them since we moved back up this way, but their name popped up on a search. Used to work on a few landscape things for them. Good folks. They manage rentals.

Southern Hillsboro doesn't have to be too long a commute if you take the back roads (i.e. hwy. 219). Newberg is a bit closer, and you could also consider McMinnville, Woodburn, anything within about a 25-mile radius of Wilsonville. This would give you time to get to know the region and decide if/where to put down roots.

Newberg/Dundee Would probably be more 8-Kid appropriate, and a much easier commute to Wilsonville (20-25 with good traffic, but MUCH better than Hilsborough/Aloha)

The ONLY way you could work with HIllsborough/Aloha would be to work with the new commuter rail to wilsonville, but that has limited times.
