Yes, amazing isn't it.

Everyone's complaining about jobs but these measures will cause more unemployment and surpress any eventual recovery. At the same time it rewards the state for it's reckless waste and inefficiency in spending taxpayer's dollars.

It is very sad!

I guess Oregon does not want Business here..... Humm wonder why Oregons unemployment is one of the highest in the nation.

Tax the rich some more.... they won't notice..... Yea right.... They will just have their permanent residence in other states (washington no income tax) and have a vacation home here... That way Oregon gets NO tax

Thanks Willamette Valley !!!

We in Central Oregon did our part.... about 60% of us voted NO on 66 & 67

I gather from the Washington Post article that Oregon has a history of rejecting tax hikes, what happened this time? (I'm not from the area, but am planning to relocate there this spring). It seems a little counterintuitive to increase taxes during an economic downturn-or am I missing something, is there something special about the Oregon social/political structure that resulted in this.

I was wondering the same thing, Southern Oregon voted down both of these measures. I'm thinking that these measures should be applied not state wide but county wide, that way those up north can have their tax hikes and maybe we down south can get some of their business to relocate here.

Wow. Well, that's not good. Increasing tax on businesses isn't the way to entice more to come to your state, and the income tax is already one of the highest in the US. Yikes.

Oh, WOW!

This makes me proud that I now live in Portland. We (the voters of Portland and the county of Multnomah) did in fact pass the two measures by a wide enough margin to carry the state.

Oregon voters pass tax increasing measures by big margin | Politics & Elections - - Oregonlive.com

Be sure to check out the county-by-county map of voting.

Notice also there was a large voter turnout for such an off-cycle election. BTW: voting was done by mailed ballot to registered voters, who in turned mailed marked ballots back to county. No standing in line, hungry, after a long day's work.

Phil

Nikki Oregon is a funky state. This was a horrible bill and people passed it because they think that rich people can afford it. What they don't get is that to companies like Nike or Intel the taxes are a drop in the bucket. It's the small to mid sized C ompanies that will be hurt.

I am a democrat and I voted against the bill. But the good news is that I read the other day that the PERS rate might go up 6%. Never mind all the people in the private sector that lost 50% on their stock portfolios with no recourse...

The most conservative estimate I saw was 24,000 jobs lost between now and 2014 due to the bill.

what are you going to do in an economic downturn, when you realize that part of the problem is your long standing policy to not having taxes has finally caught up with the State? You want a look at mismangement, look at California with it's REPUBLICAN gover-nator who have completley trashed the state. It may never recover. THAT is what happens when you won't have or raise taxes. They finally hd to raise some income taxes, but it is way to late to compensate for the denial the Terminator has been living in for almost eight years. We have no education system left. Just hope it is not too late for Oregon.
