Yeah, or Sweet Home, Gresham, Springfield, Harrisburg, Klamath Falls, Ontario, Medford...etc. Take your pick, there's no way to lose!

Lars Larson ratings are increasing on his Oregon network, even among Liberals, but probably not among Rich Liberals. I think Lars Larson is more a populist than a Republican.
So far, nobody has delineated any specific places in Oregon that have Rich snobbish Liberals who exclude newcomers, so that's a plus for Oregon, and maybe such a place doesn't exist in Oregon?! If this was New Mexico, it would be Santa Fe, and if it was Arizona, it would be Flagstaff . . .

Ashland has the highest rich liberal count per capita, and I don't think they are excluding anyone, except in the competition for housing. Very few "gated communities" and the stuff they seem to have elsewhere. Rich liberals here like to talk about California, Berkeley and Stanford degrees, and can get snobbish about good wine, but that is about it. I think they can get a bit pushy and big for their britches in local politics (sure, I have only been in town 3 years, but I would make a great Mayor, and after all, I do have one of those big degrees, and these folks don't, and my friends back in Hayward will be so impressed!), but otherwise they are very good citizens, IMO. A lot of voluteerism and philanthropy. The horror!!! )

Can't speak for places like Lake Oswego, but I don't gather that is high on your list.

Thanks - that's all great to hear. I'm talking about rich liberals who are exclusionary, and where there is limited philanthropy. Flagstaff was horrible. When I drove through Eugene, looks like they don't care about their homeless, neither does Flagstaff, where I kept writing letters to the on-line newspaper comments advocating for the homeless shelter, which probably still hasn't been built yet. They finally started their YMCA after much opposition. Ashland definitely sounds more like seattle, portland, or san francisco, than towns in the sagebrush, pondeBullBoxer31, and pin~on-junipers of AZ, CO, and NM.

Yes, I talk trask about rich ex-Californians at times, but truth be told, this town is not very snobby. I felt a much more elitist feeling in Boulder, CO. Not sure if it was the low body fat, climber crowd there or what, but it seemed much less cool than Fort Collins (down to earth). Ashland just does not feel like that to me. Sure, a few snobs, but not really a big deal at all.

My 50+ years experience with Oregon has shown me that in general it is one of the least pretentious places in this country I've ever lived in or visited. Any part of Oregon.

There's always exceptions as they haven't figured out how to corral up all the jerks in one location yet, but in general, pretty down and, by and large, pretty unconcerned with a lot of "status" items like what your last name is, what you drive, where you work.

Agreed. That is probably why the recent urbanite, wine snob types are usually intensely disliked. However, my impression of the rich ex-Californians,etc. around here is that most like to slum along in jeans and enjoy their lives rather than stand around and pose or exclude anyone. We do get the "more eco than thou" types at times, but that is another issue...

I will say that native Oregonians often want to keep outsiders out, so have an "exclusive" mindset in a certain xenophobic kind of way, but they are usually NOT rich liberals.

What towns offer a mix of incomes and career development opportunities? Eugene? Corvallis?

What towns should be avoided, because they have rich liberals and retired folks? Ashland? Bend?
Find a town with low employment, undereducated people and a depressed business section (stores with plywood in the windows). Make sure there are old washing machines on the front porch. Be sure that there is no library in the town. If there are a lot of trailer parks, unhealthy individuals who are missing a few teeth and could do with dental health, racks on their twenty-five-year old trucks for guns, and cars which have McCain/Palin on the bumper stickers, then you've found a republican town.
Towns with colleges, libraries, educated residents and a high-level of volunteerism will likely harbor those liberals to which you refer. Avoid them like the plague.
