St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Cathedral in Baker City. Built in 1910. It was restored recently, including the stained-glass windows. It is beautiful on the inside.

An interesting story.

In 1903, Pope Leo XIII created the new Diocese of Baker City, with the pastoral offices in Baker City, for the 18 counties east of the Cascade Range.

The offices were relocated to Bend in 1987.

In 1951, the diocese name was changed to Baker Diocese.

St. Francis de Sales is still the diocese cathedral, so if Roman Catholics in Bend want to celebrate mass in their cathedral, they have to travel to Baker City.
