Im a GPAA member but it seems they only have claims further north and they are apparently heavily overworked. Im new to OR and live near Medford and am looking for places to pan/sluice and of course would welcome finding a good local club !

You have two near you and you are in the best producing area in the state. I am a member of the North Bend Prospectors.

Default Camping in the area

Will be heading down to Southern Oregon in a few weeks to try my hand at panning. I'm tired of digging for thundereggs in our area. Is there any place to camp that isn't a campground?

BLM Land, but remember there is almost no unclaimed land in Southern Oregon when it comes to prospecting. North Bend Prospectors has about 80 Acres up Graves Creek with Camping, but they prosecute trespassers who are not members or guests with a member. Some more near Riddle, and Sixes.

Dole Bar just south of Roseburg will produce some color and camping is allowed. Just get a permit at the city hall in Myrtle Creek.

I have found a little in Mt Hood National Forest along the Clackamas river drainage.
I used to take a small gold pan in my backpack when scouting out deer hunting areas.

If I found a creek that looked interesting, I'd stop and pan a little bit.
I've gotten some panning out the moss that grows on creek bed rocks.

It is rare to not get a little color at Dole Bar. And they wanted to camp.
