We have a gorgeous 1995 Silvercrest Home on our own 8000 sq ft corner lot in Manzanita. Now hubby wants to sell (sob) buy acreage in the nearby countryside and put up another mfg home.

Thing is, Silvercrest no longer sells in Oregon. Would love feedback on the Mfg homes available here. So far, Karsten and Fuqua look to be the best.

Would appreciate some informed comments.

We have a Karsten; it's pretty good. Palm Harbor is another one to look at.
Things to make sure of, if you buy one made for you: MAKE them put a good underlayment down on the roof - water/ice shield. The HUD spec appears to be paper with thin sprayed asphalt - it will tear upon application and basically be worthless.
You may wish to ask what roof load to spec in order to get 2x4 trusses. Upgrade to 2x8 or 2x10 floor joists. And finally, insist on OSB or plywood subfloor, as thick as possible. Also, finally, if you have three pieces, make sure the installation instructions are followed exactly where the sections meet.
Karsten is part of Clayton now, owned by Berkshire Hathaway. BH does a lot of things right. Our place isn't bad, but I'm redoing the entire roof after seven years.

Love to, but not for another 15 years or so - I love the coast and can handle the rain.
Best of luck!
By the way, the Mfg. Home show is usually in March or April, at the State Fairgrounds in Salem.
