Hello Peoples, I'm new to this site and forum. I'm originally from Washington Heights NYC, not a good area. I have served 7 years in the Army as a CH-47 Helicopter Mechanic. I have deployed 3 times; twice to Iraq (Balad and TQ) and once to Afghanistan (Bagram). I have attained the rank of Sergeant and I would have been Staff Sergeant had I re-enlisted. I am able to purchase, at most, a $125,000 house.

Given that info and skill set, what kind of work could I or should I expect to find in Orlando? I'm looking to move there since the real estate is looking good. Also, what areas you think I could safely get for that money for a decent quality of life? (I'm originally from NYC, I don't ask for much, just a place where I won't get shot by gangers or junkies)

In that price range your options are limited unless you're willing to consider a condo. Homes in that price range are generally located in Kissimmee area. Other than that you would have to search for a shortsale or move further out. Deltona may also fit the bill and the budget. These are really the only two areas that come to mind in your budget but they are both livable areas. Given the choice, I would probably choose Deltona because it is less touristy.

Truth be told most of the houser listings I'm looking for are in the Kissimee and Deltona areas. I can put up with a place being about 15 miles out I've also been to Clermont, it seemed nice but I don't know if it's too overpriced (for my max range of $125-135G or so), I can deal with tourists too I guess.

Why did you get out? Don't buy a home until you have a good job...rent..gives you time to look at the
different areas to live, check out homes, etc...

Not that it's really your business why I'm getting out but, I've nothing to hide so... I'm going to get out soon because I got married and I did not get married to spend every other year away from her.

...I will take your advice of course to rent, for a short while 3-6 months while I check out the areas but, I would do that in any city...

RageX I don't think totsuka was being nosy it's just that the job market in Orlando is not the best. You will find a lot of posters here warning people who are thinking about moving to the Orlando area to make sure they have a job lined up first before moving. It's been brutal here the couple of years! Good luck!

Truth be told it's been brutal in more places than not, but maybe I put words in totsuka's mouth that weren't there... well then would y'all say that Kissimee and Deltona are ok areas...?

out of the two I prefer Deltona because it's a little less crowded than Kissimmee. Also, easy access to the beach, Sanford and Orlando.
