Would anyone happen to know of a store or farmers market that would sell genips? I used to eat these as a kid when my dad was stationed in Panama with the Army. I went to Las Americanas (436 and 408) and Sedanos but they didn't have it.

Not positive but you should try Casselberry/Longwood. In Casselberry on 436 and Oxford is a market that might sell. Then on 17-92 and 434 which is technically Longwood has a big South American market.

It might also go by a different name than Genip. I think I've eaten that before but never heard the name Genip, of course I ate it in the South Pacific.

I love this fruit!! I eat them all the time when I go to Puerto Rico
They are hard to find , but you'd have to go to the real spanish markets mainly in kissimee or along semoran.
The bigger chain markets may not carry them, but you might be able to find them in some of the Bravo Supermarkets, I thinkPublix had them once, but that is very rare.

Ask in Latin stores for Quenepas (Keh-neh-pahs). That's what they're called in Puerto Rico. I saw them in a market in Kissimmee a few years ago. They are only available for a short time, usually around August. Try the Bravo supermarkets, they carry almost everything. I would give them a call to see if they have them in yet.

I called the Bravo on 436. They said that they do sell them and that they had some this week, but they are currently out of stock.

Progress...

So, I drove out to Kissimmee to Publix Sabor on Saturday to get them. Then I went to my Publix for my regular shopping trip on Sunday, and they were right there (but only three containers). Aw man...

There are a few shops on Oakridge Road that might sell them. That would be mostly the Americana area. Also try shops in Orla Vista, Pine Hills, and around the tourist areas.
