Hi, I went to a great church in Atlanta called Free Chapel with Jentezen Franklin. I believe it has somewhere north of 10,000 members. Does anyone know of any similar "mega churches" in Orlando?

Northland Church, according to their website has a congregation of 12,000. I went to a Christmas event they held at the Arena a few years ago and the place was packed!

Real Life Christian in Clermont is the 5th fastest growing churches in the US. I understand they currently have 4000+ members. (I'm not a member, but know people who are.)

Yup, that's my church and it's awesome. Joel is a great preacher. He makes church fun and able to understand. The band is awesome too. It sounds like you're in a concert everytime. When you leave there, you will feel great. Try it out!

They have many small groups too that you maybe interested in. Check out their website.

10,000 isn't really a mega church IMO, even the Catholic Church where I grew up had 3,500 families which eqauls over 10,000 people according to their website.

Joel Osteen in Houston, now that's a mega church constructed out of the old Houston Rockets arena.

They wanted to make the Amway arena a mega church when the Amway cener opens. I'm glad that the decided not to do it.

The typical figure that is thrown around to define a megachurch is one that has regular weekly attendance of 2,000 or more people.

Of course there is no such thing as an Association of Mega-churches that generates any kind of official definition of a mega-church. However, most people when they are talking about mega-churches are referring to weekly attendance not membership. I've never been to Annunciation and have not been active in the church since moving to Florida, but at Holy Cross back in Dover, Delaware we had around 2,500 registered families in the early 90's but our weekly mass attendence was less than half of that. At Immaculate Conception in Marydel, Maryland our parish was much smaller but the percentage of people who attended mass was about the same. In fact, weekly attendance at church services averages around 45% for both protestants and catholics.

You also have to take into account that I think we tend to count differently than protestants (as far as I know, mega-churches are a protestant classification; I've never heard even a very large catholic parish being described as a mega-church). A catholic family is likely to be counted as a member of their parish even if they have never or almost never attended mass there.

Also, our attendance is divided up over a lot more services every week than most protestant churches; I have seen pictures of mega-churches where they only have one main service per week an entire massive congregation attends that service.
