My husband and I along with our 10 year old daughter and possibly our soon to be 20 yr old son is looking to relocate to Fl. We are looking for an area that has good schools, children & pet friendly neighborhoods, lower crime, close to major stores (walmart), clean and affordable. We have looked in St Cloud but heard that the neighborhoods are going down and it may be a bit racist (my husband is vietnamese/white and I am black) so that made me a little uneasy. I heard about Winter Park but the homes that they have are older than what we would like. Can anyone help us out?

St. Cloud and Davenport aren't going to be good choices school-wise. Lake Mary is a great area with good schools. Oviedo and Winter Springs are also good communities around that area. You should also check out Dr. Phillips and Windermere. These are beautiful, safe communities with great schools on the southwest side of Orlando.

Rent or buy, needs beyond the school for the property and price range will also help with getting good recommendations.

Hope this helps,

Lake Mary!! It's clean, safe, wonderful for families, GREAT schools, has everything you need around you, no need to drive more than 5 minutes for anything but work. Lake Mary is the ONLY place I'd live in Florida, about 25 minutes to Orlando. Bentley Elementary, Greenwood Middle, Lake Mary High, all A+schools. My son is 10 also and goes to Bentley, it's wonderful! Gorgeous houses for under $200,000 and apartments around 900-1300 for a 2br. Good Luck. It's a bit stuck up though, but that's what you get in $money town Florida. But I'd sacrifice the stuck up considering all you get here.Good Luck!

Have you looked into the town of Harmony, a planned green community just west of St. Cloud? It's very pet friendly. St. Cloud seems very cowboy. Lake Mary is wonderful.
