Hello,
My dad wants to spend Dec-March in a 70+ with low humidity area. Can someone suggest what his best bet is within the 48 states. Any advice is deeply appreciated.
Also, although humid, I was looking into the Orlando Fla. area, but have no idea about it, other than Disney World is there. So, can anyone suggest which neighborhoods in Orlando are safe, yet busy for housing my active senior dad? Areas to avoid would be a plus. Thanks so much. MsK

I would think Naples or Boca Raton would be good options.
Orlando will be nice during those months but can get well below the 70s as a high at times, especially in January to March. South Florida metro on either coast should be nice and mild.

If you are sticking to Orlando, the safest neighborhoods are Dr Phillips/Bay Hill, Lake Mary/Heathrow, Lake Nona, Oviedo/Winter Springs, Winter Park, Maitland, Celebration, Wekiva, Baldwin Park... or areas of Lake County like Clermont, Leesburg, Mt Dora, etc. There are nice communities like Reunion and Harmony in Osceola and Polk County, as well as Lakeland/Winter Haven, Debary or Deland in Volusia, or Viera and New Smyrna.

Lots of options for fun: dining, golf, beaches, shopping, bike trails, parks, lakes, etc. It will probably all depend on his preferences and price range.

WELL, Orlando is not Humid from about October/November to March/April, ALTHOUGH, at any given time our temperature can soar to about 85 or something in between then with MILD Humidity, but nothing like summer where temperatures can feel 10-15 degrees above average..

Other than Disneyworld there is Golfing, Fishing, The BEaches, Buses To The Casinos, Different COmmunity Centers involving the Seniors First Program which they actively do things with Seniors every week, there is also art festivals, dining, etc etc.

There is NO "SAFE" part of Orlando or Orange County, there is no such thing. But AREAS to stay away from would be the zip codes of 32801 West of I-4,32805,32839, 32811, 32809 In some areas. Some of these neighborhood names include Crime Hills, Malibu, Metrowest (Kirkman), Paramore, ALL of the numbered streets, Texas Ave, Americana, Mellinia (Only IF Your going to the mall and going to Haul Ass, then go), and Oak Ridge. Not that all of these areas are just downright bad and nasty and your going to die, no but they are the most sketchy areas of Orlando especially for a senior. So any other neighborhoods then all is a go.

Some particularly respected neighborhoods would be Windermere, Bay Lake, Dr. Phillips to a certain extent, the Hiawasee part of MetroWest, Maitland, Hunters Creek, and The Villages!!!!, The 192 Area, Ocoee, Winter Garden, Winter Park.

Also I would suggest maybe going to St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale. MANY of the BEACH areas already have low humidity due to the Sea Breezes plus they would have active golf courses and everything else Orlando has to offer with a higher count of seniors ina nd around buzzing like bees rather than the same amount in Orlando.

Depending on what types of activities your dad likes, you might also consider The Villages. Lots of activities there and lots of similarly aged people for him to meet new friends. As others have mentioned however, it probably won't be 70+ everyday.
