Yesterday, I was riding a subway train in NY getting home from work. And for reason I was tired that day. I was playing a game on my cell phone (its a Droid Evo). So once I got done playing the game, I wanted to put the phone in my pant pocket. Unfortunately I was sitting beside this large woman, therefore I couldnt reach my pocket. The subway was FULL. So consciously I slipped the phone under my coat in my front suit jacket pocket. Then I went to sleep.

When I got to my stop, I got up and exited the train. I forgot that I placed my phone in my front suit jacket suit pocket. I thought I placed the phone in my coat pocket and somehow between walking in that crowd that the phone slipped out of the coat pocket and ended up on the floor and someone lurker picked it up and ran off.

I told the train operator that I couldn't find my phone, she let me in and I went back to seat and I didnt see the phone. I said, "Damn someone took my phone". She said, "Baby, this is New York..." I said, "Yeah I know..."

So I walked out of train and in my mind I took the lost. Once I got outside I realized I had the phone all long.

I say this story to illustrate the TYPE of mindset you have to in a real city with real crime. Mind you, the CRIME in NYC is WAY DOWN than before. However, the crime in NYC is CRIME.

And I spent 9 years in Orlando. I been everywhere. I been to Robinson, Pine Hills, OBT, Silver Star Road and etc. You can name those areas, I have been there LATE AT NIGHT on the weekends and had NO FEAR.

I understand that people that were born and raised in Orlando, that grew up there before the BIG MIGRATION believe the city is dangerous.

My friends its NOT. I grew up in Miami. Orlando is not more dangerous than Miami. And I don't care about stats.

I've been saying this all along! Yes we have crime, just like most major cities, but to compare our crime to places like NYC, Detroit, Miami, Oakland, etc, is insulting to the residents of those cities that live through that crime daily.

Exactly. I've never found Orlando to be dangerous to live in. I've even lived in some not-so-great places, but I've been lucky enough to spend most of my life in Dr. Phillips where crime is pretty much non-existant. I've never heard of anyone I know getting robbed or mugged or anything here. The crime really stays in place for the most part (Pine Hills, Parramore, etc.). However, I know people who have gotten jumped and mugged in New York. One friend got his laptop stolen right off the subway. A lot of people complain that Orlando is car-dependent.. but I say it's a blessing. Walking/using public transport is where I feel most exposed in NYC.
