As an avid beach loving person I would suggest the Gulf Side beaches over most beaches within your drive time on the Ocean side.

I do not recommend Daytona or Cocoa. Both were great spots years ago but both have become run down and dirty in my opinion.

NS is not that bad but again if you want the best beaches in Florida close to Orlando you will have to head over the the Gulf.

Anna Maria Island, Siesta Key, Fort Desoto, Clearwater, St Pete Beach are a few among the best in Florida. And if you have time Venice is also nice.

We like Ft Lauderdale beach area but that would take up to much of your time in the car.

Good luck and head west to white sandy beaches and some great food.

I have to say one thing about Daytona, they've really cleaned it up. If you haven't been there in a while, check it out. It did go downhill over the years, but now it's better. At least over by the boardwalk area, bandshell and Ocean Walk Shoppes it's decent.

I agree with most of the others. I don't like east coast beaches. When we lived in Orlando we'd travel to Clearwater Beach, specifically Sand Key. Cocoa was probably the closest, straight shot across the BeachLine.
Daytona Beach is OK, but much rather go to the west coast. Book a room, stay 2 or 3 days in Clearwater.

I am visiting Orlando in May with my family (including a young niece, hence the Orlando part). Anyways, my boyfriend and I are 26 years old, and are looking to drive somewhere within 1-3 hours from Orlando to get away by ourselves for a few days. We are looking for some place that isn't too crowded, but can provide a lazy beach for the day time, and possibly some upbeat fun for the night time.

Any suggestions would be very helpful,
Thanks!

You've got my vote on Siesta Key. We rented a condo, ocean front, and it was delightful. Love that quartz sand! It never gets hot!. Great place.

Honestly, how can you judge a place by pics? Sure there are some not to nice areas, but there are some nice areas too.
