Hello everyone,

I have been hired to work at Florida Hospital in Kissimmee and I am looking for a place to live. We are moving up from south Florida. Any suggestions? I definitely want to stay north of the hospital, because when my boyfriend gets a job, he will most likely have to travel into downtown Orlando rather often. I also don't want to be too far from the hospital (20 mins or so max) so I can have nice easy commute! Our preference is up to approx $1400/mo. We definitely want a safe area, with easy access to restaurants, grocery store, post office, etc. The place must accept dogs. We have no children, so schools are not an issue. We would prefer more of an upscale, brand new/newer apartment complex if possible.
The two apartment complexes I have been considering (but have not seen/toured) are:

Cane Island - Formerly exclusively a resort complex, now both resort and long-term tenants due to the economy. Pluses: Seems luxurious with granite, etc., right off 192 and convenient to other highways, a lot of restaurants, stores, etc and convenient to Disney (we love Disney). Con: only allow one dog, and we'd really love to get another.

Rapallo - Pluses: Very convenient to the hospital, right near the loop, possibly allow multiple dogs. Cons: Not as upscale as Cane Island. Not as close to every day conveniences like post office and grocery store.

I would be very grateful if any of you could suggest any more places we could check out when we are able to make it up there to look around!

Thanks!

Right off 192 means a traffic nightmare to go anywhere. Also I wouldn't want to live in a short term rental community. Granite countertops mean nothing in the big picture. They don't make a place "luxury" they are just window dressing.

We are both going into out first jobs post-graduation so we do not have any savings to buy a house. We would like to eventually, but just need to get up there to start working first. Anywhere we go would only be for approx one year so we have time to save.

Look at hunter's creek. Would be an easy commute for you to FH Kissimmee, and a reasonable commute for him to I-4 into downtown. There are reasonable apt complexes in that area to fit your budget (can't remember any off the top of my head, but the HC area in general is good).

I think you missed my point. There are short term rental communities where people can rent for as listtle as a week, and long term rental communities where people generally stay a year or longer. I would avoid the short term communities, the day-to-day transience makes it much harder to determine who shouldn't be in the community for neighborhood watch type purposes.

Gotcha. Sorry for the mis-communication.

To the other poster, I tried looking at the apartments in HC and none of them were very nice. Love the area, but the apartments are rather disappointing.
