My family and I are currently looking to relocate to the Orlando area. Although we are not deadset on Orlando proper. We would appreciate any pointers in helping us choose the right area for us. Our daughter is 6 years old and homeschooled. Looking for an area with strong family atmosphere that is safe. We live in Lexington SC right now. She is very involved with golf and community theatre so an area that provides this would be wonderful. Being within 40 minutes of theme parks is also important. Not sure if we will rent, buy. I have been researching and Regal Palms in Davenport FL has lots of listings that are reasonably priced. Curious about this neighborhood and area. Any help planning our adventure is greatly appreciated!

Lexington, SC ... home of the Gamecocks correct? Go Gators! Just kidding...

I'd suggest looking into Lake Mary, Oviedo/Winter Springs areas... for what you're looking for...

Haha! Yes, home of those beloved Gamecocks. I do believe we are the only family in SC that are not fans lol. Go Bama! Thanks for the tips I will check into those!

Also I just noticed you live in Asheville. I grew up there. We will be there this weekend. How are you liking the climate?

Being that you're from Asheville, take this honest suggestion from me... I wouldn't suggest living in some parts of East Orlando / Southeast Orlando. I definitely suggest places like Oviedo and Winter Springs. There are some nice areas with the "community feel" around downtown, but it's expensive. Orlando is not like Asheville where people stay put and live there a long time (or maybe forever). Orlando is very transient, and that can be annoying. But, there are some places (not a lot) where you can get that sense of community, where people wave 'hi' to eachother, etc...

I lived in the Avalon Pk area, which is like this master planned community with thousands of homes were built in recent yrs. Everyone was from somewhere else, nobody knew one another, it was kind of a headache because a lot of people didnt show much pride in their homes, etc. So just do some research! There are some nice communties though, I dont want to scare you! Lol!

Also look at Dr. Phillips and Windermere Closer to the theme parks but much nicer than Davenport.

I vote for Lake Mary. Great schools, safe and very convenient.

Excuse my ignorance, who are the Gamecocks? LOL

Gamecocks = Univ of SC.
Stever Spurrier (used to be the Gators coach) coaches there now.

Gamecocks stink and SC still loves them and buys every piece of merchandise ever made! LOL! We don't really care about being close with our neighbors etc. We are pretty private at home. But we do like to get involved if that makes any since. I just don't want my front door swinging quite yet as my daughter is only 6. We would like to enjoy this very limited time where she enjoys being with us lol. Expensive in Florida is not expensive in comparison to what we are used to being from Asheville. So I will definitely look into the suggestions you all made. So Davenport is yucky, huh? How far is Windemere from Orlando? How about condos/townhomes any suggestions for upper middle class ones? Thanks ya'll!
