Of course it goes without saying that the actual state is different than Long Island (thank god lol), but what exactly do you mean, "people are different?" A lot of the people down here are from NY anyways. I think there is a much better way to word this statement like, "the pace is more chill, and therefore the people seem laid back," or whatever you were trying to say

With all due respect, if the only part of Winter Park you've seen is the Village MALL, then you are in absolutely no place to tell somebody to steer clear of it!!! That really is the equivalent of me visiting a shopping center in Anytown, L.I. and saying steer clear because the immediate surrounding area was poor. I'd be happy to post a map illustrating to you and/or the OP where Winter Park has incredible neighborhoods, schools, and even a true downtown.

Native Floridians is a term used here witch is extrememly suspect?! Technically I and a lot of my friends growing up were native Floridians since we were born in Florida. However I have parents and 100% of family from Detroit & Chicago, if anything my accent is Midwestern not Southern. When I lived in SC for a year, people there asked me if I was from Minnesota or someplace similar. When I told them Florida, their perception was that Florida is practically a northern state and that most of the Southern you find nowadays in Florida is either leftover from pre-growth era (when Fl was more heavily Southern) or due to people from other parts of the SE like GA, TN, or the Carolinas moving to Florida since it is the Cali of the East Coast (beach life, freedom from traditional families, warm weather year round, laid back pace/atmosphere).

Let me tell you, Florida is no bastion of Union embrace, but you will certainly find more Unions here than in most other parts of the South. For example, my gf from South Carolina teaches for Seminole County and when she went to new hire orientation and they had the Union rep come speak to them, she had to ask what a Union did/was because SC has banned them. Yes I acknowledge that Florida doesn't have the job market of the NE, but you might be let down if you move to Georgia with the obvious exception of Atlanta. As for people being more friendly that's subjective but I will tell you, they are more Southern, oh I mean different lol.

Hi Broker Dave,
Would you be able to assist with the selection of good properties with a strong rental market for me?
I don't mind the areas nearer to disney as well cos that may appeal to the working crowd.

I am curious, and please educate me on this:- don't most americans own their own homes or they prefer to rent thus there is mobility as US is a big country...

1)start to check homeowners insurance and compare?
2)start to check out HOA
3)Property taxes are also high
Hi Florida04,

You are right, HOA and property taxes are high. Is the property taxes high becos the property is worth more?? or they are just high? Do you know of where i can check out homeowners insurance and compare? Thanks for your kind assistance in advance...

1. Winter Park
2. Lake Mary
3. Dr Phillips
4. Windermere
5. Celebration

Any of the top 4 should be good. I've heard Celebration schools are less than stellar, particularly since they opened them up to anyone in Osceola county.

As far as overall living goes, I think Dr Phillips and winter park are the best, followed by lake mary.

I love Lake Mary but this list will not make it look like it, because this list reflects my preference:

1. Winter Park
2.Windermere
3. Dr. Phillips
4. Lake Mary
5. Celebration

When you pick a list of the greatest communities in the Orlando metro none of them are bad. I just prefer the more urban options than the far flung suburbs. If you really like suburban life and don't mine being out a little ways, Celebration and Lake Mary are great options and Lake Mary is definitely the better of the two.

Winter Park is tops on this list IMO, because I prefer more urban, eclectic, and local stuff with character. The other places are all suburban. Celebration is different in that it is a master-planned development with a town square.

That post back in 2007 from rich renter saying that Winter Park Village was the only nice part of WP...wow. He didn't even bother driving around to see the best parts of WP...Park Ave and all the multi-million dollar mansions on the lakes, Hannibal Square, Rollins College, Orange Ave...etc. Winter Park Village is one of the least interesting places in WP!
