Is pest control necessary inside houses please? If so, how is this best done - by self with sprays etc or best left to the professionals, and if the latter, what pests need to be controlled and how much might it cost? New to a warm climate, and really hate creepy crawlies lol.

Here is my suggestion go to the frig store or dollar store and buy a bottle of Boric Acid. then liberally place it in places you can't see... under the stove, behind frig.... and so on. It will keep you roach free. and will cost $3 vs the$0 the agencies will charge...

Ugh. I have the "Tubes in the Walls" system and can't imagine anything else. One of the benefits is that I don't even have to be home when they come. Boric acid works for roaches, but not a host of other bugs. It also won't take care of wasps, mud daubbers, and spiders on the outside, which a good pest control company will also deal with.

I pay about $30 a month, and if there is a problem they will come right away to deal with it at no additional charge. For example I had a bunch of spiders in the garage that looked like brown recluses. They weren't but the guy came and cleared the webs and sprayed, spiders gone, me happy, no extra charge.

Thanks for your advice - are brown recluses nasty? The more bugs I can deter the better :-)

Brown recluses are highly poisonous.

What about for termites? Would you suggest a termite bond or the liquid stuff they put around the perimeter of the house? I am concerned about a bunch of chemicals in my lawn. We already do the fertilizer and weed killer. I have young children and dogs, so I'm a bit nervous about too much toxic chemicals around.
