Hi - I'm from Australia and planning my honeymoon for April 2008. We're looking at heading south to orlando after spending a month in LA, Las Vegas and New York. Are there any places we should avoid and is Orlando a good place for tourists/honeymooners?

A lot of people (not locals), seem to like Disney for honeymoon purposes. Honestly, the Disney folks are pros at planning vacations. You may want to check out the Disney website for info if you would like to go that route. If you do it through Disney, they can arange everything from transportation to accomodations, to what to do. Its pricey, but you only have one Honeymoon. You'll never acctually see Orlando doing that, but nobody comes to see the city of Orlando anyways.

If you're looking for something a little more adult, you should look at going to Miami instead of Orlando. Better night life, better resorts, better beaches.

If you're looking for quite romance, check out Amelia Island and Saint Augutine.

As for places to avoid: Anything around Orlando that is geared towards tourists, but not officially affiliated with Disney or Universal. There are alot of crap tourist traps around here. Although, I do like Gatorland.

Thanks for the tips. We are doing Disneyland in Anaheim and Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA. Were originally going to do Universal in LA and Seaworld in San Diego but thought we'd combine those two theme parks and visit Orlando. We have set aside 3 nights in Miami but have had reports that Miami isn't really safe for tourists.

Is Disneyworld better than Disneyland?

All of WP is safe. But do stay away from the entire west side of Orlando/Orange county, even if it appears safe, stay away, the west side of town is where almost all of our capital crime is commited (rape, murder, kidnapp, etc.)

Not at all. This woman was shot in the face a few weeks ago while answering her door. Deputies search for answers in Winter Park-area shooting - [domain blocked due to spam]

You're making this whole adventure sound appetizing. Maybe we should avoid the south all together and spend more time in Las Vegas/New York etc.
