Just a few weeks ago I posted that I thought this and SunRail would both be cancelled. After HSR got the axe, I was thinking these were next and we would be staring at a big empty plot of land across from city hall for years. However, the future of downtown is looking up now. I believe in all of these projects and the concept of core development.

Thank God, the only time that empty lot is not an eyesore for the city is when they are throwing a concert and it's filled with fans and a stage, otherwise it's crap. Also can't wait to see the lot between Lynx Central Station & the Orange County Courthouse become the main SunRail station.

Unfortunately that lot will remain empty even after Sunrail. The current Lynx bus depot will be upgraded into a Sunrail station. That lot is actually private property that has had many developments. It's a prime lot but cost has always been the issue. Hopefully when Sunrail is up and running it will be the tipping point that puts it over the edge for developers.

There is another empty space downtown...well, there are still quite a few just north of the core like that lynx station area...but this one is really obvious when walking around downtown: the corner of Orange Ave and Pine St. However, there is a sign there now that says a low-rise is coming that will have a restaurant space on the bottom floor. I would love to see this site developed as it is really an eye-sore.

Thanks, my bad for assuming that. It would make sense however to turn that into something transit oriented.
