is it true that a person can't even stop at red lights on hiawassee, kirkman, or silver star roads without being robbed or victimized? i was reading this as a post, please someone who knows tell me this isn't true. also, there was this website talking trash about orlando and the man quotes"women and children should wear a homing device when alone in orlando so they can find you when you disappear off the street in broad daylight, and this happens a lot in orlando". what! this sounds a little ridiculous. however i need to look into the area and researched crime in the city, and this is scaring me, bcuz am going to vacation and possibly move back to there. i know people have vendettas against certain areas and some people have been victimized, but can be 1 in 1000 people. but we don't hear too much from the happy ones. please tell me the stuff i mentioned above isn't true, and if it is be brutally honest. i will be coming to the area alone and am concerned.

I don't know where to even begin with this... and no Orlando isn't anything like what you described. In fact, outside of a bad "B" movie, no place is.

I watch the local news pretty much everyday and this is NOT a problem. Of course, there are places I wouldn't want to be alone at night if I were a woman, but as far as the daytime is concerned, you will be fine.

As a young female I've never had any problem in all my years in Orlando, and I've driven down all of those roads, been alone at night places, etc. etc. Robbers at every light?! Homing devices?? That's pretty ridiculous. I love living here and feel very safe- you just have to use common sense. I wouldn't walk around in Parramore for example, but most of Orlando isn't like that.

I've lived and worked in the Pine Hills area for 20 years...I've never been robbed, raped or murdered.

Not true about the red lights; however, if I were a single woman, one of the last choices I'd make to live would be any apartment on Kirkman. Have woman disappeared in Orlando ? Yep, Jennifer Kesse & Tracy Ocasio come to mind ... does it happen often ? No. Would I let my wife go to the Walmart on Kirkman at midnight ? No chance in hell ...

Like any other city these days, you need to be aware of your surroundings and proceed accordingly.
