I plan on moving into an apartment with a friend in a few months. We're still looking for the best area to move into. Ideally, it would be within driving distance of UCF, cost us each around $300-400 a month, and be located in a safe neighborhood. I want to avoid places like Pegasus Landing, the Edge, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of other places to avoid? The farthest we want to go is the Winter Park area.

Look at some of the complexes a bit further to the north in Oviedo, around 417 and Aloma (Mystic Cove, Elmhurst Village and Barrington Place). It's less student-oriented and I think you get more for your money. They're at the top edge of your budget but could be running deals now in off-season.

Bumping.

Any other recommendations? Preferably within 20 minutes from campus?

You might want to look at Mission Bay. They've got 2br's close to your price range, and it's near University & Dean so it's very close to UCF. It used to be an condo community so the construction is concrete block (translation: excellent soundproofing). They've got fireplaces, a pool, and a hot tub. My only issue with them was that none of the floorplans include a balcony. If you can live without that, I'd definitely recommend it.
