That's exactly what I meant. Since Orlando is a vacation destination, its pretty cool( hot now for a couple of months ) to actually live there. But then when you feel like taking some time off to go somewhere for a week, where do you go?

Interesting thoughts. Keep 'em coming.

Yeah, over the past few years a lot of my friends have visited (or even moved to) Asheville, though the trend seems to be shifting to Boulder/Denver.

When I have visitors we always do Miami (I have family there, too) or Miami Beach. Sometimes we stop for a night in Miami, then keep going to Key West. St. Augustine's also a favorite. I like day trips, like Cocoa Beach and various springs.

I'm not that into cruises, but a lot of people I know take advantage of living so close to Cape Canaveral. For those of us who live only and hour or so away from the port, cruises are a relatively cheap vacation option.

Staycations are great. No expensive hotels, no worrying about being robbed because you were out of town, no neighbors picking up your mail/newspaper, no TSA lines, no bag fees, no expensive gas/fuel bills, no rental cars, no taxis, No cramped airplanes, no unusual hassles.

So true, the area from Dahlonega, GA on up to Johnson City, Tennessee is littered with FL license plates....especially right around now through Labor Day. It's 20 degrees cooler during the day, 60 degrees at night, very little humidity, What's not to like?

And you don't get to see the world. Pretty provincial if you ask me.

When we lived in Orlando, we enjoyed traveling and seeing things in Tampa, Naples and Miami. One of my favorite trips was to St Augustine and to the Jax Zoo.

I like the Jacksonville zoo as well out of all the zoos I've been in FL.

The great thing about living in Florida is that the Caribbean is very accessible and affordable. Just one of the many reasons I am moving back.

The Bahamas can be done as a weekend getaway and there are direct flights to many islands...Jamaica being my favorite...what else could you ask for?

Not really in our backyard, but we went to Naples two weeks ago. Love it down there. Such a clean city. Stroll fifth avenue and rent a boat and explore all of the rich homes in Port Royale.
