Report: Orlando second-hungriest city in U.S. | www.wftv.com

Quote:
An analysis of a recent survey of the country's largest metro areas showed enough people had trouble putting food on the table to land Orlando the number two spot on a food hardship list compiled by the Food Research and Action Center.
Quote:
Lakeland-Winter Haven also made the top 10.

Quote:
In this report, the Southeast United States led the way in the number of residents who reported not having enough money to buy their families food.
Not good news at all. What about food stamps? We have 45.8 million people on food stamps nationwide. The low-paying service economy is really hurting Orlando.

That sucks! It's hard to find good work any where in the state right now so this makes sense.

Here is a link to the website.

Poverty Data « Food Research & Action Center (http://frac.org/reports-and-resources/2008-poverty-statistics/ - broken link)

These are some pretty eye-opening statistics for our country. I wonder what the future looks like when so many kids know nothing but poverty?

By looking at this its safe to say the hole country is going down the crapper, not just Orlando lol. We need to bring back manufacturing and just some good ole American pride. It's scary to think about what the country will look like if we don't go out and get a little dirty!

Nothing will change until the entitlement mentality is eradicated.

If people say they don't have enough money for food, is that the same as them not enough money for food?

Agree 100%. It reminds me of these silly occupy protests where every one of those whiny bastards has an iphone and/or a mac laptop to film the police arrests.

Sell your damn iphone, cancel your $100 per month contract, and buy some food. Pretty simple if you ask me.

The federal poverty level for a family of 4 is just over $22,000 a year. Look at the Excel spreadsheets on that website and see how many households and how many kids under age 18 are living in families that earn less than that poverty cut off. Astounding.

THIS is America in 2011. Way more kids are poor than seniors. It seems we are raising an entire generation of poverty stricken children. It's going to be tough for them to break this cycle, especially when all of our manufacturing (and "green") jobs are being shipped out of the country.

The irony of this is just hilarious. Here you have people protesting against corporations, while the very product they adore and feverishly support is produced by one of the most cutthroat, labor wringing, greedy corporations EVER.

I've heard from friends/ relatives who have attended "Occupy" events throughout Florida. They all said that the turnout was a real cross-section of our society. All ages, races, etc. Stop generalizing that all occupy attendees are young hippies with ipods. This is simply not true.
