In other states, they give restaurants grades that they have to post on their doors. You know, kinda like what they do with schools. But since the current climate says that the private sector can do no wrong...

There is no way to be in Florida and not encounter a palmetto bug. I've seen a stray one occasionally in a restaurant and still go back, and am still kicking. As disgusting as they are I'll take a palmetto bug over a camelback cricket any day! OTOH, with earthquakes happening in places where they don't usually happen, palmetto bugs will give us advance notice. In that case it would be good. As for your experience at the restaurant, I would have been real ticked at the workers thinking it was so amusing. That's even more disgusting than the bug. And so is what it costs to eat there.

First off, the management & staff at Fulton's Crabhouse acted in a very unprofessional manner if they reacted in the manner stated above. Guest complaints should be taken seriously and acted upon in a courteous & professional manner. That being stated, there are some things which are beyond control of establishments-no matter how expensive or "fine dining" they are or appear to be.

If the op is not from Florida or familiar with our palmetto bugs-they will be APPALLED & HORRIFIED by them. These critters are huge compared to what non-Floridians deal with--throw in the fact that they fly and you have got some pretty freaked out people.

To the OP, sorry that you had the experience that you did. The staff reacted in an unkind manner and they should be ashamed. They take for granted that everyone knows we deal with palmetto bugs here--when, in fact, many people don't even know what a palmetto bug is.

The manager did comp your meal-which was a very fair thing to do. Comping a bill that would have exceeded $300 because of something far beyond his control should not be expected.

Having a palmetto bug come into the restaurant where people are constantly streaming in & out of in the semi-tropical climate of Florida is going to happen. Finding it crawling on you, chilling as that may be, is not the same as finding it in pieces in your food--meaning it got in during the food prep stage.

Im affraid I don't share the cavalier attitude. Roaches in restaurants are disgusting. I had one walk on my leg at the fridays at the airport. they comped the meal and I've never returned, nor will I. I saw one walking across the wall at Marylands, and a Chinese place on Semoran N of Aloma. again I haven't returned.

I've worked in restaurants that had them and I find the attitude was not what I had in mind. restaurants get them, but some places will spray immediately when they do. Places that don't I have no interest in going to as I know how they will attend to other cleanliness issues.

Our health department in Orange county leaves much to be desired. They can't test for human biologicals (spit) and take a totally disinterested approach. That is the worse thing I've seen about Orlando. Otherwise...love it.

I agree, unacceptable. I don't have any in my home, I wouldn't expect to see one in a restaurant.
