Hello all,

I'm about to make the move from South Florida all the way up to Orlando to continue my education at Valencia (and eventually UCF), I'm looking to move into an apartment complex in eastern Orlando called Knightsbridge at Stonybrook, does anyone know about that area? It's right next to Avalon Park.

I've been in that area and I find it really nice and quiet, but I'd like an actual person from Orlando to tell me a bit about the area (UCF, Waterford, Valencia area's as well).

What is there to do for fun? Any good places for food and entertainment? I'm 20 years old and have regularly gone down to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami to have fun. How do you think I'll find it compared to the scene in those two areas?

So can you guys help me out?

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm not into drugs, and I only really drink rarely. I tend to stay away from stupidity. :P And yes, the east campus is where I'll be.

The Valencia - East Campus area is pretty quiet and a safe area. The apartment community is gated which helps as well. It's a good place for school, especially compared to Fort Lauderdale or Miami's social distractions as you won't find near that number of distractions here... though probably just enough to keep you from becoming bored. Good luck!

For a student like yourself that area is great part of town. It has it's drawbacks, traffic and distance from downtown, the tourist corridor and I-4, but no huge negatives. Because there are so many students there it's an area that has really catered more and more to students. The restaurants tend to stay open a little later, student discounts at some places, etc. There plenty of shopping at Waterford Town Center, dining all over Alafaya, University and Colonial and college bars throughout the area. Firken Kegler is also a good time for bowling, games and pool.

I was born in Orlando and Lived there until my 23rd birthday (I moved away about 2 weeks ago). Orlando has it's ups and downs, but its a fun place to live. Don't move any closer to Valencia East than where you are planning to live. I lived in an Apartment complex right near the east for 2 years, and the area just seems to be going down hill. When my husband and I moved there it wasn't that bad, but it seems to only be getting worse.
Waterford isn't bad crime wise, but the area is always very busy. Traffic on Alafaya, East Colonial and University always kind of stinks. If you are looking for quiet Oviedo is really quiet, and only about 15 minutes from Valencia via 417. I grew up there. It's really safe, quiet, and close to everything. If you're looking to be close to entertainment, Winter Park, Downtown, and Waterford/UCF are good.
As far as what there is to do... Orlando has amazing shopping and tourist like entertainment. There is always something fun to do. Also, downtown has a lot of clubs and great bars to check out. Chances are you'll meet people who work in the theme parks... and if you become friends you'll probably be able to get in for free once in a while. The beaches are also fairly close. Cocoa is a nice half-day trip.
Avalon park is pretty quiet. There are a lot of families that live there. Some people say gang activity has gotten bad around avalon park/ waterford, but to be honest I've never seen it. I never felt in Danger around there. If you have any more questions let me know! I'm an Orlando Native! And now that I've moved away from it, I'm starting to miss it a bit. Have fun living there!
