My fiance and I are thinking about moving to FL sometime in the near future. We both have our Bachelor's degrees, and are currently living in upstate New York. We travel to Orlando to visit friends and Disney World once every other month, and have wanted to move there for almost five years now. I would love to find work with Disney there, but am pretty open to any sort of job I can find that I could utilize my degree with. My fiance would like to be a police officer, but I am hesitant for him to do this in a high crime area. Since I am not completely familiar with Orlando and its outlying areas, what places would be the safest/least crime-ridden areas/departments for him to try and get into? I am a HUGE worrier, and was just wondering! Thank you

UCF PD would probably be pretty low-risk, as would the state-level agencies like DEP (state parks), FWC (fish and wildlife), FDOT (commercial vehicle enforcement), agriculture cops, etc.

As for cities, I'm not sure.

I would have to say Windermere PD. Followed by FDOT.

I would stick to the low crime areas further from Orlando and the tourist destinations. Lake Mary, Longwood, Altamonte Springs, Maitland, Winter Park, Oviedo and Winter Springs would be my suggestions.

No such thing as a "safe" area in law enforcement. I retired from the Miami-Dade Police Dept. after 30 years of service and attended lots of funerals where Officers were killed in reasonable safe areas in the county. Crime and violence has no boundaries. You just have to be VERY careful and hope the good Lord is with you.
