I want to relocate to the Orlando area from Upstate New York. I would like to live within about thirty mintues within the city. Since I'm a single older female, I want to find a safe area. My best friend lives in Phoenix and would like me to go there but I would miss the water and the trees. Any suggestions? What's the job market like? Thanks.

Depends on what kind of income you will have down here and whether or not you are buying a house or renting a townhome/condo/apartment

You might want to consider the Mount Dora/Eustis area. Less crime and nice small town feel. It is located in Lake county, but not too bad of a commute to parts of Orlando. Depends on where you may be working. Do you have a job lined up in Orlando or will you be looking for a job?

It's a middle class/lower income area.......i assume you don't care about a large hispanic community since you are coming from San Antonio.....the area near Curry Ford Rd. is majority Puerto Rican......i actually used to live in that area.....there is some drug dealings in that area and i know on a personal level about that.....because i used to live with people that bought drugs out there and they had a couple places they could go out there to get stuff....but they were just roomates and i got out of there because i was tired of that and some other personal things but i would say it feels like a community where most of the younger people are working at fast food places and alot of middle aged people are store managers or baggers at grocery stores with some here and there working office jobs....but its more of a lower middle class lifestyle in that area.....not full blown ghetto but some areas can be over there....lots of apartment complexes and older 50's-60's style houses

More info-Age: mid-40s. I would be renting an apt and no I don't have a job lined up. I'm sure they are much easier to find than in WNY (avg-9 months to a year). What are some good suburbs?

i dont quite understand the rest of the question about the average thing....but the nicer areas where apartments are would be in the north part of Orlando....such as Winter Park (just ask specifically what area in Winter park though because there is a ghetto area near the movie theater)...or Altamonte Springs (look near the mall and west of I-4 that is all good but....there is a ghetto area over near state road 17-92)......or Maitland, Winter Springs, Oviedo, Lake Mary, and Cassleberry. ........dont look at the map and look at Sanford and think it is good too just being north of those other areas and away from the city....Sanford has a big ghetto area they call one of the neighborhoods out there "BO-KEY".....and the same thing goes for Apopka.......there is a ghetto area there too
