Hey there! Can anyone give any insight on what the Oak Ridge/Orange Ave area is like? I've searched and found quite a few threads on the general Oak Ridge area, but most information based on areas closer towards Millenia. I didn't see anything about the Orange Ave end of Oak Ridge and I'm just wondering if this general area was just as bad as the Millenia/Americana area. The few times I've driven through, it definitely seemed a bit more "quiet" than the Millenia end of Oak Ridge, but then again, looks can be deceiving I am sure. Any input would be great!

It's quiet. It boarders Pine Castle and Neighboring Edgewoood. Won't have any issues I'm sure. It's not as densely populated per sq mile as Oak Ridge near Prime and Mellinia therefore less people, less crime, less activity.

Well comparing it to the John Young Pkwy/Texas Ave (Millenia) side of Oak Ridge, it's definitely not as bad. But it's not "nice" by any means either. Oak Ridge dead ends at Orange Ave/Hansel Ave..but once you're east of Orange Ave it's much better, which is considered Conway. Anything west of Orange Ave heading towards OBT will be more sketchy..especially inbetween Lancaster Rd. Not to get too confusing, but the roads north of Oak Ridge closest to Orange Ave (Lyda Ln, Joyce St) are sketchy as well, but once you get past that towards Mary Jess Rd, it's better.

I went to Oak Ridge High and grew up in the area..and while it's not the worst in town, it's an area that you will hear police sirens at night and don't wanna be walking down the street by yourself at night.

Thanks for the detailed replies! I'm a little familiar with the Conway area, which seems pretty quiet. I won't be moving to the Oak Ridge/Orange Ave area, but I will be working in the area soon and am not familiar at all with South Orlando in general, or really much of Orlando period.

Where do you live now? Is it worth the commute to your new job from wherever you live now?

And what are you looking to do exactly? Just rent temporarily..buy..apartment..house?

Oak Ridge/Orange isn't really a "bad" neighborhood but it does seem pretty old and run down. Maybe this is just my opinion, but that area seems to be one of the few "redneck" areas left in Orange County that's still hanging on.

I only say this area seems redneck to me because of Olde Dixie's Fried Chicken, which has a white chicken with an army helmet and waving a confederate flag. Delicious chicken though

At all my days in oak Ridge, they are cool. Long as you don't f*** with them or disrespect them they are cool (The Rednecks in that are), but it's such a small number. On the South side of Oak Ridge and Orange it's mostly Hispanic, black, with white people being sporadicly placed in the neighborhood.

But it's not bad or sketchy, it's just old and not as well maintained as some other neighborhoods in Orlando. West Oak Ridge of OBT is Sketchy. Still not bad. Bad is Texas Ave Americana. Even though they have nice apartments and homes the majority of the area is bad, therefore making the area bad. Even in bad area life still has to go on.

For the most part if you dont mess with anybody or act disrespectful, almost everybody will not bother you. I treat everybody how I would want to be treated, and 98% of the time it works

Like I said it seems like the Orange/Oak Ridge area is one of Orange County's last remaining "Redneck strongholds" as a I called it. I say its a redneck area mainly because of the Jesse Black Saloon on Oak Ridge by the train tracks, and because of Olde Dixie's Fried Chicken

I usually just pass through the area when I take a trip downtown and I dont feel like taking I-4. Orange Ave is a great alternative route to OBT, much less traffic congestion, and fewer lights. And despite a lower speed limit, Orange Ave is MUCH faster

Please tell me this is all subjective because I find this to be untrue and completely opposite experiences.

IMO OBT is much faster , 3 lanes until I-4/Michigan ,speed limit is higher, and between Oak Ridge and 408 there are 7 lights with no curves or dips, with 1 or two lynx routes in and out of traffic at a time

Orange Ave between Oak Ridge and 408 there are only 2 lanes, lower speed limit, curves, dips in the road, with 13 traffic lights and upwards of 5 routes in and out of traffic at one time.

Coming from far South Orlando on Orange Ave by way of Wetherbee Rd (by cypress creek high school) there are few lights and NEVER any traffic congestion.

Also Between Landstreet and Holden Ave there is less congestion on Orange Ave, fewer cars on the road and the red lights aren't nearly as long as they are on OBT which is congested at all hours it seems. Traffic on OBT between Sand Lake and I 4 seems to never get above 30 mph, I'm always going 40-45 on Orange Ave

I just have been using Orange as my alternative route downtown to avoid holiday shopping traffic on I4 (millenia mall and prime outlets) John young (Wal Mart plaza at sand lake) and OBT (FLA Mall) Orange ave gets none of it. I took Orange from Southchase right into downtown last night with no congestion at all

Once the holidays are over I will revert back to my john young to 528 to I-4 route as a way to get downtown
