Does anyone know the job market for nurses in the Orlando area? I have been an RN for 8 years. I have an ADN degree. I am also a single mother with two teenagers, one who requires special ed. I would be renting, at least in the beginning. I am curious about schools and neighborhoods as well. I currently commute an hour to work so I would be willing to commute up to an hour.

The job market is pretty good for nurses apparently. We have two major healthcare companies that about evenly split the hospitals in the area, Orlando Health and Florida Hospital. Nemours Children's Hospital just opened and could be still staffing as well. The better schools are in Seminole County, with Lake Mary and Oviedo topping the list of best school districts. Lake Mary is furthest from the center of Orlando (about 30 minutes) but is more built out/less rural than Oviedo since it sits on the I-4 corridor and offers easy access to the 417 Expressway and US 17-92 too. Oviedo is well to the east and offers access to just the 417, and relies upon secondary roads to get to/from most areas. I live in the Lake Mary/West Sanford area and would recommend it highly.

We do have an abundance of hospitals in the area. As to schools Winter Park High and Boone are the "A" rated high schools in our area...both in Orange County. Besides FL Hospital and Orlando Regional Medical, We also hhave a VA hospital and they are building a new one in Medical City.
