I did not see in the original post where in VA the person is from. VA is a huge state, and the cost of living and wages differ widely depending on where you live. Where I am from in VA (far SW portion of the state) that salary (65k) would be amazing. Northern VA, near the DC area, you might not be able to live on it. I agree that it is not the best thing to move anywhere without having a secure job, unless you have several years worth of savings to blow.

Having said that, we are planning a move to FL, but realize that the cost of living and wages are quite similar to our current home. Actually, wages are a bit higher in FL, even in the service and retail industries, than they are here. And there are NO advancement opportunities here in SW VA, unless you want to become an assistant manager at a grocery store or Walmart. We also realize that it could take months, or even a year or 2 to realize our goal of relocating, because we won't move without a job or without doing the research it takes to be successful.

So, to the OP, you are there, remember why you moved, and you may have to take something that pays less just to get your foot in the door. Hopefully it will all work out for you.

PS: Not all parts of VA are in close proximity to DC. I could get to FL almost as fast as I could get to DC.

That's subjective. Coming from NJ we found it to be less expensive in Florida--even the homeowners.
