Winter Park is a safe area but fairly expensive. It really depends what you're looking for other than just safety because Orlando is not really a retirement spot. Clearwater and Ormond beach probably cater better to seniors. The reason I say that is because even in a place like Winter Park, housing and cost of living are reasonable but certainly not cheap. On top of that, it's a busy area like the rest of Orlando, traffic, congestion, you name it. Not the place I would think of if I'm thinking about a laid back retirement. I would look in places like Lake County, Space Coast and parts of Volusia county.

Village Walk
Safe, gated, yard work, cable & Internet included. We lease here for $1,600 a month on one of the lakes. 20 min to airport but still not "in" Orlando. NO CRIME and great walkways for people and dogs. Village Walk at Lake Nona

The safest areas in/around Orlando:

Windermere
Dr Phillips
Winter Park
Celebration
Lake Mary
Heathrow
Lake Nona

Clearwater and Ormond are still safe, but you will come across more questionable people.

I have no idea where you baked that up from but it couldn't be any more inaccurate. Clearwater in particular is quite safe, and most of it's neighborhoods compare equally to the neighborhoods you cherry-picked from the Orlando area.

Your own link proves my claim, LOL

Clearwater:
12/100 (100 being safest)
Clearwater is safer than 12% of cities in the US.
Overall Crime Index: 369 per 100,000 (319.1 US AVERAGE)

Windermere:
90/100 (100 being safest)
Windermere is safer than 90% of cities in the US.
Overall Crime Index: 36.8 per 100,000 (319.1 US AVERAGE)

Lake Mary:
34/100 (100 being safest)
Lake Mary is safer than 34% of cities in the US.
Overall Crime Index: 154 per 100,000 (319.1 US AVERAGE)

Winter Park:
22/100 (100 being safest)
Winter Park is safer than 22% of cities in the US.
Overall Crime Index: 216.6 per 100,000 (319.1 US AVERAGE)

Heathrow, Doctor Phillips, Celebration, Lake Nona are some of the safest areas to live in Central Florida.

Not to mention the OP specifically asked, "what are the safest areas to live in Orlando area"

You would be flat out lying if you say Clearwater is safer than the Orlando districts I mentioned or the other cities I mentioned.

I even said, Clearwater and Ormond are safe, but you'll come across more questionable people compared to the other areas I mentioned.

Well, there was once a crime in Windemere, one quiet Thanksgiving night. But they moved out of the neighborhood

You're not comparing apples to apples, I was. Clearwater is a city and Orlando is a city. The areas you picked are not in Orlando, and are in fact separate entities. Just like Orlando, Clearwater has similar separate entities surrounding it that are equally safe (or more so) such as Safety Harbor, Countryside, East Lake, Palm Harbor and Belleair/Belleair Bluffs to name a few. You should probably re-read and work on the comprehension a bit.

Like the previous poster posted Clearwater is a city of about 107,000 something Winter Park, Windemere, and Lake Mary do not even come close to matching. All those towns are suburbs of Orlando, Clearwater has its own suburbs. If i was a retiree clearwater would be the place to go retirement heaven down there.
