How are the IT jobs in Orlando? I'm just getting a A+ certification and would have to start from the bottom and work myself up in the IT field. I would start off part time because my main job is in a different field. Just wondering how the market is like there.

I guess there isn't much in the field of IT in Orlando. I will probably just start off repairing or troubleshooting computers as a start off.

The IT jobs in Orlando does not pay very well. Do you have experience? I noticed you just got your A+ certification which in the IT field is equivalent to around six months of experience. You will need more experience than that to be taken seriously. You will need to gain some hands on experience before any employer will want to look at you, I would recommend volunteering for a non profit to gain experience, but starting at the bottom in Orlando means you will be making around $10 an hour tops.

An A+ certification is useful for working in the Geek Squad or maybe an independent computer repair place if those still exist. If you're looking to work in a corporate IT place or a data center, you'll need to find a very entry-level job (summer intern, helpdesk, computer janitor, cable puller) and work your way up. How old are you? You can try to get a job at a community college helpdesk or IT department while taking some basic computer science classes. I have friends who suffered through that for a few years and then moved to unix ops desks with respectable pay, especially if you don't mind overnights and/or 3x12 hour weeks.

If you are actually trying to get into programming, don't bother with any certs. Learn to program, and don't stop learning. Start posting and reading StackOverflow, post your work on Github, and get into some Meetup tech groups. You'll eventually have people looking for you.

I work in the emergency services field. So working with computers is something totally separate from my main type of work. It was something I wanted to get into when I was younger but never got around to it. I like to toy around with computers..have built and upgraded computers in the past. So why do something that I would probably like. Plus I think in the IT field there is more opportunity to move around. But I have to start off somewhere even if it's a help desk etc. I'm in my mid 30's and have a family. My current job is pretty physical. I was thinking as I get older having a IT job would be better.
