I used to live in Birmingham, Alabama, and there was an area there called Five Points South where five streets intersected. In that spot were numerous clubs, quaint shops, and attractions, with an old gothic church at the center with a circular fountain where people hang out at on the benches and grassy courtyard. It's not a strip mall, and people constantly criss-cross the intersection at the crosswalks.

I'd love to find a place with a similar feel to it here in Orlando (not necessarily a five-road intersection), where people hang out, like a boardwalk or something like I already mentioned. Is there such a place here? I had seen a place downtown (don't remember the name), but it didn't look very busy. Crane's Roost in Altamonte Springs is pretty much deserted unless there's a special event. I don't like the strip malls because of the private property issues that I've seen in the past.

Thornton Park is generally very active, lots of people wandering around, all the tables outside full.

Also Park Ave in Winter Park is very active. These are both bigger areas than an intersection, though.

second this. Probably the two areas I think of most along with other parts of downtown

I think Thornton Park fits better with what I'm looking for. I'll try and make a visit there this weekend. Thanks!

On Sundays, there's a big farmers market at the lake that runs from 10-4 (or thereabouts). It is VERY crowded. Plan around that. If you want to check it out, come then. If not, definitely come on Saturday. Parking is also impossible on Sunday (and not always easy on Saturday, either).

Other than the areas already mentioned you may also want to try Edgewater Dr. in College Park, Baldwin Park village center, Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs, Colonial Town Park in Heathrow, Sanford River Walk, Downtown Mt. Dora and Downtown Winter Garden.
